Following Walter Benjamins, 1935 essay “the Work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction” this exhibition gathered contemporary art and design that question the authenticity of an object that can be mechanically reproduced. In the essay, it talks about whether photography or moving images could be associated with art. 76 years later, we have expanded our view of art to include things like visual, performative, and decorative arts.

What the exhibition aimed to showcase is not the answer to the ideologies of our authenticity, but rather invite an open perspective of art through a digital medium, reproducible art, 3-D printed objects and non-haute couture garments. Various objects will be displayed to highlight that most things now are victim of mechanical reproduction and their authenticity remains vague.

In the society we live in companies are able to put their names on things that they most likely never even made. The manufacturing of Garments has affected the scarcity of what bespoke fashion was originally about.

I wanted to challenge this idea, by designing and manufacturing a bag that would later be put on display with one of the bags being made by myself. Leaving it up to the audience to decide which ones were made by a factory or myself.
